Darnestown

Horizon Therapeutics plc announced in January that it signed a long-term, full-building lease with Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. to be the first tenant at the Alexandria Center® at Traville Gateway campus in Rockville, Maryland. The 192,000-square foot building with a five-level parking garage containing up to 562 spaces is currently being constructed for Research and Development use at 9810 Darnestown Rd next to the Travilah Square shopping center.

When completed, the state-of-the-art facility will serve as the company’s primary East Coast research and development and technical operations hub. Construction at the nearly 200,000-square-foot site is underway and Horizon expects to start work on interior improvements in 2023. Additional terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The Winter Weather Advisory was issued earlier this morning for NW MoCo starting 6am Saturday until 3pm. We suspect that this will cover all of MoCo soon.

Model outputs overnight have shown an increase in potential snowfall. Model outputs are not forecasts, and a blend of several different model outputs are often used by meteorologists to create a forecast.


Montgomery Planning

Makeover Montgomery 5 is a three-day conference with a focus on resilience scheduled for September 2022

Wheaton, MD – The Montgomery County Planning Department, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), has announced a new April 1 presentation proposal deadline for its conference, Makeover Montgomery 5: Resilient Montgomery, co-sponsored with the University of Maryland’s National Center for Smart Growth. This is the fifth time this conference will take place with a focus on seeking regional ideas to help Montgomery County thrive. This year’s conference will focus on all aspects of planning for resiliency in the areas of the economy, neighborhoods, infrastructure, and the environment. Proposals were previously due by March 15.


Gaithersburg

Land Use Article of the Maryland Annotated Code requires municipalities to adopt a comprehensive, or “master” plan composed of various elements, such as Land Use and Transportation, which are intended to guide future growth and development of the City.

In 2019, the State legislature passed HB 1045 requiring all master plans to include a new Housing Element. This new Element is required at a minimum to address the need for affordable housing, including both workforce and low-income housing. The Element may also discuss other facets of housing.


Maryland

Maryland is having a successful recovery from new unemployment claims, with last week’s claims lower than in the same week in 2019, according to WalletHub’s updated rankings for the States Whose Unemployment Claims Are Recovering the Quickest.

The U.S., in general,  is making significant progress in the fight against COVID-19 with the distribution of the vaccine and boosters, and this has been reflected in the job market, despite new unemployment claims increasing slightly week-over-week on February 28.
