MoCo Libraries Offer a New Way to Celebrate National Read a Book Day

Every year on September 6, readers come together to celebrate National Read a Book Day. Normally, this day could be well spent by visiting a local library and bringing a stack of books back home. Right now, you might be hesitant to collect books from your local Montgomery County Public Library. Did you know that our MoCo libraries have a new reading app?

Silver Spring

Moe’s Southwest Grill recently came back to MoCo when the fast casual Mexican restaurant opened in the Wheaton Mall food court.

Many of you may remember that Moe’s previously had MoCo location last in Gaithersburg at the Potomac Valley shopping center until October of 2015, in Rockville Town Square (where Finnegan’s Wake is now located), and in Silver Spring on Tech Rd (where Qdoba is now located).

Downtown Silver Spring

The Washington Business Journal reports that MOM’s Organic Market has signed a lease with Bozzuto Development Co. and Stonebridge to take over the previous Montgomery Planning headquarters in Silver Spring. It will be located on the ground floor of 8787 Georgia Ave. as part of the planned redevelopment of the Montgomery County government facility.

Per WBJ, “MOM’s will anchor the redevelopment of a government facility in Silver Spring into a mix of retail and residential space that’s been in the works for nearly six years.”

Montgomery County will remain in Phase 2 as the State moves to its Phase 3 reopening, which went into effect today at 5 p.m. Montgomery County’s current case count is higher than it was when the County entered Phase 2 several months ago. Daily case counts in late June when the County entered Phase 2 averaged 67 cases per day. The current seven-day average of new confirmed cases is 85.

Venues such as indoor and outdoor restaurants may now include live performances as part of their dining experience. However, establishments are prohibited from allowing dancing or congregating in front of the performers. Individuals present must still wear masks unless they are eating or drinking (and they must be seated while eating and drinking). The new live-music guidelines go into effect immediately. On Wednesday evening, the Governor announced that more activities would be allowed under Phase 3; they are being reviewed to determine if the County could also allow some version of those activities.

Health

An agreement between MCPS and MCEA was signed earlier this week addressing several health, safety, and operation concerns that have occurred due to COVID.  An earlier report by Bethesda Beat shared this information this evening.

Some of the items addressed by the agreement:

MoCo officials officially launched the County’s first four Ride On electric buses with a ceremonial “unplug” event.

Following the event, the media will have an opportunity to speak with the officials and get video inside the buses and at other designated areas of the maintenance and transit operations facility including bus sanitizing demonstrations and sneak peak of new Flash buses.
