Burtonsville

Phowheels is now open at 15707 Old Columbia Pike in the Burtonsville Crossing shopping center (currently in a soft opening phase until Friday, April 18th). It’s the DMV and Maryland’s first drive-thru Vietnamese restaurant, though indoor seating is also available. Our very own Mr. MoCo stopped by to give you a first look at the restaurant (video below).

Takoma Park

The City of Takoma Park, Maryland and Ms. Kakila Cooper, a former dispatcher for the Takoma Park Police Department, have reached an agreement to settle Ms. Cooper’s claims of sex harassment and retaliation for $1 million, according to a news release by the law firm of Correia & Puth.

Colesville

The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) State Highway Administration (SHA), in collaboration with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) and the Montgomery County Department of Transportation, is beginning work this month on a $1.2 million stream remediation project in the Colesville area of Montgomery County.

Gaithersburg

Gaithersburg-based Novavax announced preliminary results from the SHIELD-Utah study, conducted with the University of Utah Health, showing that its protein-based COVID-19 vaccine targeting the JN.1 strain caused fewer and less severe reactogenicity symptoms and less disruption to daily activities compared to the Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA vaccine in healthcare workers and first responders. Last month, the Mayor and Council of Rockville adopted an Electric Vehicle Readiness Plan, outlining 26 actions to support the transition to electric vehicles by identifying charger needs, promoting equitable access, and aligning with county, state, and federal programs to enhance adoption and support the city’s Climate Action Plan. Events

Montgomery College is calling on heroes to answer an extraordinary volunteer opportunity. On April 26 at the MC Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus, the college will host a Mass Casualty Training Exercise designed to simulate emergency scenarios and prepare future health professionals for real-world crises.

DMV

This week has been marked by a wind advisory with high winds across the region, followed by a frost advisory on Thursday morning. When that is all said and done, temperatures are expected to rise into the upper 70s and mid-80s this weekend.

DMV

On Saturday April 19 and Sunday April 20, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Rhode Island Ave. and Takoma on the Red Line. The Brookland station will be closed and there will be no Red Line train service at Fort Totten. Crews will be working to replace the switch machines in the interlocking where trains are able to cross between separate tracks. Additional Service Information below:
