Montgomery County’s Office of Food Systems Resilience (OFSR) and the Office of Grants Management (OGM) have awarded $750,000 in funding to six partnerships that increase access to medically relevant, nutritious and locally produced food for Montgomery County families with children birth-18 who are at high risk of or are experiencing diet-related disease and food insecurity.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on the 11700 block of Veirs Mill Road near Claridge Road in Wheaton-Glenmont, a multi-vehicle incident resulted in injuries and traffic disruption. The collision involved a car that sustained minor damage, with a pedestrian standing nearby who was struck by a passing motorist.
Montgomery Parks is hosting the second annual Sligo Creek Fest on Saturday, May 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Held on a portion of Sligo Creek Parkway that is closed to vehicular traffic on weekends, the festival will feature musical performers on three stages, as well as nature activities, kid’s activities and a variety of local food and brewery options.
The Takoma Park Police Department has sent out an alert to the community informing that they have been receiving emails and phone calls from both local residents and out-of-state individuals reporting a concerning scam. Individuals are purporting to work for the City or Police Department and are contacting people with claims that they’ve won a prize, but must first pay taxes or fees to claim it. In some cases, scammers are even sending photos in an attempt to make their communication appear legitimate.

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) in Montgomery Village have seen an increasing problem with vehicles illegally parked on school properties overnight, according to the Montgomery Village Foundation (MVF).
A Frost Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS), for 4/17/2025 from 2:00 am to 9:00 am for Montgomery County and surrounding areas.

A black bear was caught on camera strolling across a Darnestown driveway on Tuesday night, shortly after 8pm. The bear appeared to make its way towards the trash and recycling bin, which were securely closed, before wandering off. There were multiple sightings of the bear in the Darnestown area on Tuesday.
Cuppa Tea has announced its upcoming soft opening in the space that was previously home to Tea-Do X Mochinut at 838 Rockville Pike. Tea-Do X Mochinut closed permanently last October. The dual concept restaurant featured menus from chains Mochinut and Tea-Do Cafe.
