The Compound is a martial arts school built on a foundation of self-defense and three key pillars – Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, MuayThai, and Military/Law Enforcement Combatives. Not only do they have classes for all ages and all levels, they also offer an extremely special after-school program and summer camp for ages 5-12 that focuses on teaching kids the importance of self-confidence, discipline, and perseverance. Their goal in these programs is to provide parents with a SAFE environment that is EFFECTIVE and AFFORDABLE for their child to reach his or her maximum potential!

“We are extremely excited to bring this martial arts studio into the community. We believe in the power of teamwork, self-discipline, and integrity to create positive change. Teaching kids how to empower themselves and help others around them to promote an anti-bullying environment is one of our main goals,” says owner Pow Srikachorn.

Husband and wife team, Florian and Shannon Radke, opened their first bakery in Berkeley, California in 2010. Four years later, the couple appeared on Shark Tank, where they initially accepted a $200,000 investment for 20% of their company (the deal later fell through due to differences in how investor Robert Herjavec and the Radke’s saw the company moving forward).

We’re told the bakery will be located at 230 Crown Park Ave., the former home of Yogiberry, next to Chopt. After a few delays, they expect to open late summer 2019

The two-day outdoor festival will feature more than 140+ artists at an outdoor gallery in Rockville Town Square in Rockville. This year’s festival places emphasis on arts organizations in Rockville, featuring performances by local theater and dance groups, and hands-on art demonstrations by VisArts faculty.

Their “fun center” will include a private block building area, a huge ball pit area, a self play jungle gym that wraps around the park and five slides! They’ll also have a toddler area and a place for parents to relax.

While everyone is invited to have fun, the target audience is kids between the ages of 3 and 12. A member of the management team has told me it will be similar to Chuck E. Cheese and Monkey Joe’s.

I spoke with manager Leon Mensah (a Quince Orchard graduate) who told me that if everything goes as planned with permits, it can open as early as late May.

The first Burgerim (an Israeli Burger chain) opened in 2011 and the burger chain has already expanded to over 160 stores worldwide in just over 5 years.
