Winter City Lights, open now through December 29th in Olney, MD, has captured national attention and high rankings for its light displays, flagship Christmas tree, and 1.5 mile illuminated path through the woods. According to Winter City Lights, the holiday lights event has already been named as a top holiday lights attraction in the country by Country Living #2, Pioneer Woman #5 and House Beautiful #15 (video preview below).

Beyond MoCo

Sailing Through The Winter Solstice begins annually in November, when a number of boats, transformed through the “creative minds of many Frederick friends”, set sail on the Creek. The boats are anchored in Carroll Creek (50 Carroll Creek Way, Frederick, MD 21701), between Market Street and Carroll Street in Frederick County. The event launches today and a video preview is available below.

Crime

A Montgomery County, MD man and former Montgomery County Police officer, 25-year-old Justin Lee, was sentenced to prison Friday after he was previously convicted of forcibly obstructing law enforcement and other charges related to his conduct during the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol.

The Office of the Montgomery County State’s Attorney today shared that “in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, before Judge Rachel McGuckian, a jury convicted defendant, Torrey Damien Moore, 33, of Silver Spring, on two counts of first-degree murder for the shooting death of his girlfriend, Denise Middleton, and for the death of her unborn, viable fetus.
