Martin Mull passed away at 80-years-old on Thursday, July 27th. His daughter, Maggie Mull, announced his passing on instagram on Friday evening (her words can be seen below). Mull was an entertainer primarily known for his comedic acting roles whose career also included contributions as a musician and painter. During his music career, he once performed right here in Montgomery County— opening for Bruce Springsteen at the Shady Grove Music Fair in Gaithersburg in October 1974.
Before it became the largest high school in Maryland in terms of square footage, Seneca Valley High School (19401 Crystal Rock Dr. Germantown, MD) opened in its original building in 1974. The school sits on land that was once the site of a dairy farm owned by baseball player Walter Johnson. Johnson purchased the land in 1935 and lived there with his family until his death in 1946. It was Germantown’s only high school until Northwest opened in 1998. Seneca Valley ranks 21st in the list of the largest high schools by enrollment in 2024.

Earlier this evening we reported on an upcoming update to the current MCPS process that requires employees to fill out physical timesheets and leave requests that would move the system online. In addition to the online timesheets and leave requests, MCPS will soon provide 10 and 11 month employees the option to extend pay for a 12 month time period, according to the latest issue of MCPS’ “IT Wire” newsletter.
