Maryland

In a move set to impact vehicle owners across Maryland, House Bill 352, known as the Budget Reconciliation and Financing Act (BRFA) of 2025, introduces several significant changes to vehicle registration fees, excise taxes, and eligibility requirements for historic vehicles. Effective July 1, 2025, these adjustments are designed to streamline fiscal operations and ensure equitable cost recovery for the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA).

Education

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is actively engaged in a significant boundary study, prompted by the upcoming openings of Crown High School and Woodward High School, as well as the planned expansion of Damascus High School. The school system has sent a letter to the community asking for feedback and stressing that the options presented in the last two weeks were not the final boundaries. The letter can be seen below:

Dickerson

The Comus Inn is a historic restaurant and event venue located in Dickerson, Maryland, at the base of Sugarloaf Mountain. Established in 1862, the inn has a rich history, originally serving as a stop for travelers and a general store for the local community. Now, it’s launching an ice cream counter on June 12th.

Clarksburg

MCPS has shared that a team from Hallie Wells Middle School, under the guidance of science teacher Dustin Deem and with support from the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, has won the Maryland MESA State Championship. This achievement has earned them a place in the upcoming MESA USA National Engineering Design Competition on June 23.
