Crime

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) arrested 33-year-old Stephen Donatus Sheehy-Poore of Silver Spring for a commercial robbery at a 7-Eleven on Fenton Street. Detectives, assisted by the Real-Time Intelligence Center (RTIC), identified Sheehy-Poore through surveillance footage, obtained a warrant, and took him into custody on March 24. (more…)


Clarksburg

The Maryland office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) issued a news release stating that it welcomed Montgomery County Public Schools’ (MCPS) response to a complaint regarding the alleged mistreatment of an 8-year-old Muslim student at Cabin Branch Elementary School in Clarksburg, which included removing the teacher from the classroom. Montgomery County’s 2025 rent stabilization rent increase allowance will be 5.7%, effective July 1, which is lower than the 2024 allowance of 6%. The Rent Stabilization law, which applies to most rental units built in 2002 or earlier, adjusts rent increases annually based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) and also regulates certain fees, with the 2025 Voluntary Rent Guideline set at 3.3%.

Aspen Hill

On Wednesday, March 26, Jersey Mike’s Subs will donate 100% of its sales—expected to exceed $25 million—to over 200 local charities as part of its 15th Annual Day of Giving. This event, the culmination of the Month of Giving campaign, has helped Jersey Mike’s raise more than $113 million for charities since 2011. Jersey Mike’s has nine locations in Montgomery County.
