Chef José Andrés is bringing his Iberian take of the classic American all-day restaurant to Bethesda with the opening of Spanish Diner in Spring 2021. Formerly home to Jaleo, Spanish Diner will be located at 7271 Woodmont Avenue in Federal Realty’s Bethesda Row and will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
From early morning eggs to classic Spanish cocktails in the evening, Spanish Diner specializes in comfort food classics in a casual, high-energy environment where guests feel welcome throughout the day. The original Spanish Diner opened at José Andrés’ Mercado Little Spain in New York City, a love letter to his native country spread across the 35,000 square foot dining and market destination. Spanish Diner in Bethesda will similarly feature larger portions of Spanish favorites as well as Pica Pica, traditional specialties to share, and selections of Spanish cocktails, beer and wine.
“I like to say that Spanish Diner is the place to go for food that a Spanish grandma would cook for you right in her kitchen … simple food made with love,” shared Chef José Andrés. “Bethesda is where my wife and our family have called home for many years, so for me it is very special, and maybe a little selfish, to bring Spanish Diner right to our backyard.”
A staple of the Spanish Diner menu is Huevos Rotos Casa Lucio, eggs fried in olive oil served atop crispy potatoes, as they do at the famed Madrid restaurant for which the dish is named, as well as comfort food dishes including traditional Catalan beef stew and Ibérico pork meatballs.

Same owner/same chef/same location ? hope this isn’t a slick cover up to rebrand his Spanish cuisine to a more higher priced format instead of the small dish tapas. Bethesda just keeps getting more and more expensive
