Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a house fire on the 13400 block of Oriental Street in Aspen Hill/Rockville at approximately 11:15 on Monday night.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, firefighters rescued two residents who were found unconscious in an upstairs bedroom. Both were transported to the hospital where a man was pronounced dead upon arrival and a woman remains in critical condition. One other resident was able to self-rescue.

The fire was electrical in nature, originating in the area of the electrical panel in the basement, according to Piringer. The family, which consists of five adults and two children, has been displaced, and damage is estimated to be approximately $225K.
