At approximately 11:22 p.m., Montgomery Counry Police responded to the 12700 block of Sesame Seed Court for the report of a shooting.
According to police, the preliminary investigation has revealed that shots were fired near the location and one of the rounds struck the foot of a 12 year old female who was inside her residence. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries. No suspects in custody. The scene is secured.
WSSC Water has filed a lawsuit against nearly 20 companies that knowingly polluted the environment with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), also known as “forever chemicals.” The lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland (Southern Division), was brought against 3M, Dupont, Chemours and others for manufacturing fire-suppression foams, which contain PFAS, and concealing the toxic nature of the materials from the public.
Per WSSC: PFAS are compounds that do not easily break down and end up in drinking water supplies and wastewater. The lawsuit seeks to hold these companies financially responsible for any past, present and future water and wastewater treatment changes as they profited from selling products they knew contained these dangerous substances.
Little Steps LLC has submitted a plan for Primrose daycare to be built at 16650 Georgia Avenue in Olney. According to a report by Maryland Newsletters, the existing Olney Antiques would remain at the space, but three other buildings would be demolished for the daycare center to be built. 16650 Georgia Avenue is located near Emory Ln., the ICC, and Roots Market

Earlier this year Rosenfeld Investments sent a letter to the community informing them of plans to redevelop the Loehmann’s Plaza shopping center, located at 5200 Randolph Rd. in Rockville. The shopping center was the longtime home of the Loehmann’s department store and, until recently, of Chuck E. Cheese. The plans include a proposed mixed-use development including up to 50,000 square feet of retail use and up to 750,000 square feet of residential use with up to 680 dwelling units. The first phase of the project would be up to 84 of the dwelling units with a 23,000 SF grocery store with other development to occur in future years.
Per Rosenfeld Investments, “the Property currently is developed with a shopping center (Loehmann’s Plaza) and a large surface parking lot. In recent years, retail trends have changed and major retail uses have been migrating to areas like Rockville Pike and to mixed-use centers like Pike and Rose. At the same time, there is an acute demand for new housing in mixed-use areas like this, near transit service, and Applicant has determined that it is in the public interest to redevelop the property in stages with a combination of residential and retail uses.”

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a fire at the Enclave Apartments (11235 Oak Leaf Dr,) near Columbia Pike in White Oak on Sunday morning, August 8. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the fire was located on the 19th floor of the 20-story building. Firefighters rescued two people who were both transported to the hospital with life-threating injuries.

Earlier this year, Choong Man (CM) Chicken rebranded to Gama Chicken & BBQ at 765 Rockville Pike #E. At the time a representative from the restaurant, which specialized in Korean style fried chicken, let us that they made the change in early 2023 and that you can still find many of the same or similar menu items. Several readers have pointed out that the restaurant recently closed and GAMA is now listed as being closed permanently via Google with the phone number no longer working.

A Flood Watch is in effect from 8PM this evening to 2AM Monday for half of MoCo and many parts of the DC region. Per the National Weather Service, “showers and thunderstorms are expected to move through the watch area with the potential to produce 1-2 inches of rainfall in a short time frame. Locally higher precipitation totals are possible.”
We are not in the clear after the flood warning expires at 2am Monday, as severe thunderstorms are likely Monday afternoon/evening with the threat of damaging winds, large hail, and a couple tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service. Earlier today, FOX 5’s Mike Thomas tweeted, “Monday’s bullseye is shifting and that’s not good. Remember that an outlook is simply looking at the atmosphere and saying “this is where something is *most likely* to happen”. It’s not a promise, but if realized, Monday does have dangerous potential.” We’ll keep an eye on how things progress for Monday. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call on the 12200 block of Centerhill St in Silver Spring on Friday, August 4, for a report of a fire at a two-story duplex with one person trapped inside. Upon arrival, crews confirmed that every occupant made it out of the homes safely.
The fire displaced eight residents, which included five adults, and three children from two residential homes (duplex). Red Cross has supplied immediate assistance while renovations are occurring. How the fire occurred is still under investigation. Yesterday, units from fs718 (Glenmont) are canvassing the Glenmont Forest neighborhood in the area of the 12200 block of Centerhill St, going door-to-door and checking/installing smoke alarms. They are also available yo answer any questions residents have on the fire.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a two-car collision on Sunday, August 6 in White Oak. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the incident occurred at the intersection of Columbia Pike (Rt29) and Burnt Mills Ave and involved a rollover and two people trapped. All occupants have been extricated and three adult patients were transported with non-life threatening injuries.

On Thursday, August 10th, Wawa will return to College Park following a 16 year absence. The original College Park Wawa location was adored by many students throughout the years until it its closure in September 2007. Now, Wawa returns with its location at 10050 Baltimore Ave, next to the College Park Ikea store. The celebration will allow customers to grab a pic with Wally Goose and the first 100 customers at 8am will get a free t-shirt.
Last November, Wawa opened a location nearby at 9100 Riggs Rd in Adelphi, MD. That location, which features a 5,619 square foot food and beverage store and a gas station, is located on the Southwest corner of Adelphi Rd and Riggs Rd, just across Adelphi Rd from the existing 7-Eleven and Popeyes.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a fire in the basement of Rumba Y Carbon, a restaurant located at 11222 Grandview Ave (off of Veirs Mill Rd) in Wheaton, early Sunday morning.
According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the call came in at approximately 3:30am and approximately 65 firefighters responded to the call to get the fire under control and eventually extinguished. One person was transported to the hospital with minor burns and other non-life threatening injuries. As of 7:17am, the origin/cause of the fire was still under investigation with explosive investigators on the scene.
