Montgomery County Fire and Rescue (MCFRS) responded to a single vehicle rollover on Thursday, July 6. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the incident occurred around 1pm on southbound Georgia Ave at MD200 when the driver of the vehicle apparently failed to navigate the exit ramp. The driver was trapped after the collision and then extricated. We will post an update if additional information becomes available.

Crime

Third District investigators have released Ring camera video of a suspect setting fire to a flag hanging on the outside of a home but believe that there may be more than one person involved. During the overnight hours of Tuesday, June 27, 2023, to Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at least eleven Pride and Ukrainian flags, as well as sign boards had been burned in the Mansfield Road, Wayne Place, Ellsworth Place, Greenbrier Drive, Pershing Drive and Deerfield Avenue neighborhoods.


MoCo Government

Per Montgomery County: Montgomery County officials will host a project update on the Diversion Center planned in Rockville on Thursday, July 20 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Executive Office Building, located at 101 Monroe Street in Rockville. The meeting also will be accessible virtually via Microsoft TEAMS.

The County is opening the diversion center to help reduce the use of emergency rooms and jail. The center will be available to individuals in crisis who are dropped off by emergency medical technicians (EMTs) or police, persons transferred from hospitals, persons who are released from the central processing unit at the detention center, and inmates released from jail and court programs. A team of multidisciplinary professionals will staff the center including nurses, licensed mental health and addiction professionals, peer specialists and resource navigators.

From May through September, the department monitors temperature conditions and incidents of heat-related illness and death.  More information is available online through the Office of Preparedness and Response Extreme Heat webpage. The site also includes the state Heat Emergency Plan, information about heat-related illnesses and tips for staying safe and healthy during hot weather. Rockville

Per the City of Rockville: Join Lincoln Park Community Center, the Mayor and Council, and members of the Isreal family noon-4 p.m. Saturday, July 8, for a ribbon cutting and community event to rededicate Clarence “Pint” Isreal Park (357 Frederick Avenue).

The Rockville Village program presents East Side Live, featuring a special performance by Little Bit of Blues with Lincoln Park’s own Jay Summerour and Eric Shelby. Vendors and other kid friendly entertainment will also be on site. In the event of rain, the ceremony will take place. The community day celebration will be moved inside Lincoln Park Community Center.


Beyond MoCo

Restaurant Broker & Developers recently facilitated a major leasing deal for a 6,000 sq.ft restaurant space within The Hotel at University of Maryland’s Conference Center. The space has been leased to Iron Rooster, a Maryland-based restaurant renowned for its unique offerings and warm hospitality.

This will mark Iron Rooster’s 5th location in Maryland, reinforcing their commitment to serve the local community. With the addition of this new location, the dining scene in College Park is about to get a lot more exciting. Germantown

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Karla Daniela De Paz, a missing 16-year-old from Germantown.

De Paz was last seen on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at approximately 2 p.m., on Stone Hollow Drive. De Paz is approximately 5-feet, 3-inches tall and 120 pounds. She has brown hair with blonde highlights and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a long-sleeved gray shirt and black shorts.


I-495

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a vehicle fire on Thursday, June 6, around 11:30am. According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the incident occurred on the outloop I-495 in the area of River Rd, near exit 41. The vehicle was “well-involved” when firefighters arrived at the scene. Some lanes are currently blocked and drivers should expect residual delays.

Morgan is approximately 5-feet, 9-inches tall and 150 pounds.  He has brown hair in twists, and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing black and white checkered pajama pants, a black shirt and carrying a black backpack. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Morgan Lee Frederick is asked to call the police non-emergency number at (301) 279-8000 (24-hour line) or the Special Victims Investigations Division at (240) 773-5400. Gaithersburg

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Special Victims Investigations Division (SVID) are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Eduardo Mendez-Rodriguez, a missing 14-year-old from Gaithersburg.

Mendez-Rodriguez was last seen on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at approximately 6 p.m., on Grazing Way. Mendez-Rodriguez is approximately 5-feet, 6-inches tall and 145 pounds.  He has black hair and brown eyes.


Clarksburg

Per MCPD: Montgomery County Department of Police – 5th District Patrol officers have arrested and charged 21-year-old Lawrence Xavier Harrison, of Gaithersburg, and two juvenile males with auto theft related charges, following a traffic stop that occurred on Thursday, June 29, 2023.

At approximately 1:11 a.m., officers were patrolling the area of Frederick Rd. and Rosecrest Dr. (Clarksburg) when they observed a white Hyundai traveling northbound on Frederick Rd. with its headlights off and at a high rate of speed.  Officers followed the Hyundai, and determined that the Hyundai had been reported stolen. Officers observed the Hyundai make a U-Turn and fail to stop at a red traffic light. The Hyundai then got on northbound I-270 Highway. Officers activated their lights and sirens and attempted to pull over the Hyundai on I-270, but the driver of the Hyundai failed to stop and continued traveling a high rate of speed, committing several traffic infractions.
