Seven Sportsbooks Go Live in Maryland on Wednesday at 9 A.M.

Per the State of Maryland: Governor Larry Hogan today announced the formal launch of online sports betting in the State of Maryland. Beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 9 A.M., seven sportsbooks will go live across the state. The governor was joined for today’s announcement by the director of the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, John A. Martin.

“This process took longer than it should have, but we are excited that this launch is in time for fans to place their bets on all the Thanksgiving Day NFL action, college football rivalry weekend, this week’s slate of NBA games, the 2022 World Cup, and this Sunday’s Ravens and Commanders games,” said Governor Hogan. “In addition to allowing Marylanders to bet on the NFL, March Madness, and so much more, sports betting is helping us keep these critical dollars in the state, and is providing another critical revenue source for Maryland schools. It is anticipated to bring in up to $30 million in revenue next year, and that total is expected to reach nearly $100 million by 2027.”

Pedestrian Struck and Killed Near Shady Grove Hospital; Identity of Victim Released

Per MCPD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a pedestrian fatality that occurred the morning of Thursday, November 17, 2022, in the area of Medical Center Way and Medical Center Dr. in Rockville.   At approximately 8:29 a.m., 6th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The investigation by detectives has determined that the pedestrian was crossing Medical Center Way in a southbound direction when he was struck by a gray 2014 Nissan Altima that was traveling westbound on Medical Center Way towards Shady Grove Hospital. The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene.

Beyond MoCo: $100,000 Reward Offered For Information Leading to Arrest, Conviction of Suspect in 2003 Carroll County Murder

Per the Maryland State Police:  As Maryland State Police continue to investigate the 2003 murder of a Carroll County man, the family of the victim is now offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the victim’s death. The victim, Richard Atkins Jr., 30, of Westminster, Maryland, was found by family members beaten to death around 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 29, 2003 in his apartment in the 100 block of East Main Street. Investigators believe Atkins was targeted and robbery was motive in this case.

According to investigators, the person(s) responsible for Atkins’ death went to his apartment on or about Dec. 27, 2003 looking for money. When Adkins declined the request, he was beaten with a blunt object before those responsible stole cash and DVDs from the apartment. Anyone with information may contact Sgt. Governor Hogan and Transportation Officials Honor Victims of Crashes Involving Drunk, Drugged Drivers at 19th Annual Maryland Remembers Ceremony

Per the State of Maryland—Governor Larry Hogan joined together today with other state officials, Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) leaders, safety advocates, and law enforcement officers for the 19th annual Maryland Remembers ceremony, an event honoring Marylanders who have lost their lives to impaired driving. “No one should ever get behind the wheel of a car and drive impaired, and we hope that this creative new initiative will encourage more Marylanders to make better choices,” said Governor Hogan. “Even one death is one too many, which is why we must continue working together, we must continue to tell the stories of those we have lost, and we must continue doing everything in our power to save lives and to prevent future tragedies.”

The governor was joined by MDOT Secretary James F. Ports, Jr., MDOT Motor Vehicle Administrator Chrissy Nizer, Maryland State Police Superintendent Col. Woodrow Jones III, highway safety advocates from the Maryland Affiliate of Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Washington Regional Alcohol Program, and victim impact speaker Deb Hardy in Annapolis for this year’s ceremony. Nineteen years ago—the same year Maryland Remembers began—Ms. Hardy’s daughter was killed a week before her 14th birthday by an impaired driver.

Several Homes Will Be Without Water in Rockville Due to Water Leak Repair

Department of Public Works crews are responding to a water leak at 2611 Oakenshield Drive. Thirty homes will be without water service during the repair. Repairs, disruptions and maintenance to water mains may cause your water to be discolored.

If this occurs, running the cold water for a few minutes will normally flush out any discolored water from the pipes. The disruption also may cause air in the line, causing water to spurt from faucets or appear cloudy. To force trapped air from the water system, open a faucet located on the top floor of your home for a minute or so. Then, open other faucets, one at a time, working from the highest to the lowest. These conditions are temporary and should clear up in less than 24 hours.

Heated Cat House Causes Fire on Monday Night

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a fire on the 12000 block of Saw Mill Ct. off of Shorefield Dr. In Wheaton-Glenmont. at approximately 11:15 on Monday night.

According to our public safety reporter Cordell Pugh, crews arrived on the scene of an “Outside-In fire” that started on the deck of the townhome and extended up the rear of the home and into the attic of the home. The origin of the fire was an electrical malfunction of a heated cat house that was located on the deck behind the home. Approximately $300k of damages were incurred. Two adults, one child, and one cat were displaced and there were no injuries.

Bethesda Business Makes Shark Tank Appearance (Spoilers Inside)

Bethesda based clothing line Collars & Co. was featured on the November 11 episode of Shark Tank on ABC.  Many may have seen the clothing company’s signature item, the “Dress Collar Polo”, a buttery soft polo with a standard English spread collar that is said to be more comfortable than a normal collared shirt. Collar & Co went on Shark Tank seeking $300K for 4% equity at a $7.5 Million valuation from the sharks. Continue reading if you want to know how it went.

According to its website, Collars & Co.’s mission is to “provide men and women with extremely high quality clothing that not only looks great, but feels amazing as well.” The business sells shirts, sweaters, underwear, and accessories. Bethesda resident Justin Baer presented his product, asking for $300K for a 4% equity (valuation of $7.5M). The business launched in 2021 and went viral on TikTok, leading to 500 orders off the bat and $40K in revenue the first month after the video’s release.
