Beyond MoCo

The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar will be opening soon in Ellicott City in nearby Howard County. The shop will be located at 8225 Main Street in the historic downtown area.

The milkshake bar, which started out just under 2 years ago in South Carolina, has recently opened locations in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia.


Silver Spring

A $849,830 Hit the Jackpot ticket was sold April 15 at State Line Market, 7817 Eastern Avenue in Silver Spring. The ticket remains unclaimed as of April 18, just three days later.

A $50,000 I Heart Cash ticket was sold April 15 at Ollie’s Beer, Wine and Deli at 2011 Veirs Mill Road, Suite A in Rockville and also remains unclaimed as of April 18, also three days later.


MoCo

Steve Solomon, former co-host of The MoCoShow podcast and The Steve Czaban Show, has announced his candidacy for District 6 in Montgomery County.  Issues Solomon is running on include economic development, infrastructure, school snow days, and deer management.

Solomon previously ran for County Council in 2018 and Board of Education in 2020.


MCFRS

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue units were called to the 2300 block of Grubb Road in Silver Spring at approximately 11:40am for smoke coming from the top floor of the two-level Rock Creek Village condos.

Approximately 85 firefighters were on the scene and the bulk of the the fire was knocked out out by approximately 12:20pm. The fire was out by 12:48pm.


Gaithersburg

Saints Row Brewing’s Rockville taproom served its last beer this past Saturday, April 16, as the brewery is moving to a new location in to Old Towne Gaithersburg, which is scheduled to open in May.

Saints Row will be taking over the former Brawling Bear production and taproom facilities at 15 Fulks Corner Ave. Brawling Bear ceased operations in 2020.


Gaithersburg

Vaughn Smith, 46, of Gaithersburg, was featured on the April 17 edition of CBS Sunday Morning.  A carpet cleaner by trade, Vaughn is a hyperpolyglot (someone who speaks at least 11 languages.)

According to an April 5 Washington Post article, “Vaughn makes an effort to get to know people in the language that shaped their lives. In return, they shape his. Welcoming him. Accepting him. Appreciating him.”


Bethesda

Per Montgomery County:

The region has not hosted a professional golf tournament since the 2018 PGA Quicken Loans National was held at TPC Potomac. After this year, the Wells Fargo Championship will return to its home base at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C. Quail Hollow is hosting the Presidents Cup in September (following a postponement in 2021 because of the pandemic), compelling the PGA Tour to find an alternate site.


Beyond MoCo

Bethesda Bagels announced on Monday that they would be closing its Dupont Circle location in Washington DC this Sunday, April 24, after failing to come to a lease agreement with the landlord of the property.

After nearly 12 years and millions and millions of bagels, our Dupont Circle location will be closing. Our last day will be Sunday, April 24th. Unfortunately, we have not been able to come to an agreement with our landlord to extend our lease. Our family is EXTREMELY THANKFUL for your support over the last decade plus. We will be relocating most of our employees to our other locations.
