Restaurants

There will be a liquor license hearing on Thursday, March 3rd at 1pm for the premises known as Barriles Restaurant and Sports Bar.

The upcoming restaurant, located at 7637 New Hampshire Ave in the Takoma/Langley Crossroads shopping center in Takoma Park, will be taking over the spot formerly occupied by Mogotillo- a Salvadoran and Mexican restaurant that occupied the space for nearly a decade.

Gaithersburg

Construction commenced at Progress Labs at 700 N. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg, MD back in October. Progress Labs is a two-building approximately 495,000 SF development situated on 44 acres with prime I-270 visibility and access off of exit 11 Montgomery Village Avenue.

Included in the construction will be a new Chick Fil A location that we reported on back in October. The two main buildings included, seen in the image below, will total 495,000 sf.

Clarksburg

Construction is ongoing on the 7.24 acres located approximately 0.30 miles southwest of I-270, 1.5 miles from Little Bennett Regional Park and Clarksburg Town Center; and directly north of West Old Baltimore.  The Subject Property is directly across the realigned Clarksburg Road (MD121) from the Clarksburg Premium Outlets.

In the most recent planning board documents, the area will be getting a gas station/convenience store, wine store, coffee shop (with Drive-Thru), automobile service, ATM kiosk, and drug store (with Drive-Thru). As of now, the CVS and gas station have been constructed, but work continues.

Bethesda

Back in September we let you know the popular DC restaurant The Salt Line would be making its way over to Bethesda Row, taking over the location at 4900 Hampden Lane that was going to be home to The Riggsby.

The Riggsby is no longer coming and local restaurant owner Wesley Yao has let us know that construction has began at the upcoming Bethesda location of The Salt Line and could be open later this year. The space was formerly home to Kapnos, a Greek restaurant that announced it was closing its doors in December of 2018.

Athletes

Montgomery County Public School Athletics have announced that effective February 22, there will be no restrictions on spectator capacity related to COVID-19.

We are excited to welcome spectators back to our events at full capacity. Tickets will still be only available through GoFan.

Bethesda

Isaac Applebaum has made it to the Jeopardy! College finals. He is a junior at Stanford University, majoring in Computational Biology. Applebaum is from Bethesda and graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in 2019,  where he also played on the baseball team and ran cross country. Applebaum is also a musician, a jazz pianist, which he says is a big part of his identity.

In the first quarterfinals matchup of the two-week Jeopardy College Championship, Applebaum pulled off a comeback win to defeat Gus Guszkowski of Dartmouth and Catherine Zhang of Cornell. He won by correctly identifying Charles Torrey as the abolitionist thought to have given the Underground Railroad its name during final Jeopardy.
