Notes from the January 5 COVID-19 Media Briefing
-County Executive Marc Elrich discussed his experience with COVID-19 over the past week, saying his symptoms included a sore throat and waves of fatigue. He was mostly without a fever throughout and said his experience reinforced that vaccines prevent hospitalizations.
Per the State of Maryland:
ANNAPOLIS, MD—At today’s meeting of the Board of Public Works (BPW), Governor Larry Hogan provided an update on the COVID-19 state of emergency and steps the state is taking to address the national testing shortage. As of today, the state is reporting 3,118 COVID-19 hospitalizations, which is an increase of 61 over yesterday.

Last December we told you that GameWorks and The Works Kitchen were coming to the lower level of Westfield Montgomery Mall, next to Old Navy. Unfortunately, the company announced this week that it has closed all of itslocations and will no longer be opening any new ones.

The National Weather Service has released a map for the potential of snow on Thursday night into Friday morning.
Per the map, 2-3” of snow is expected for central and upper MoCo while 3-4” is expected for southern MoCo (Bethesda/Silver Spring).
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for areas near/east of the I-95 corridor for possible freezing rain between 4am and 9am tomorrow.
As of now, none of MoCo is under this advisory, but all of neighboring Prince George’s County is. A Special Weather Statement has been issued for MoCo.

The Eleanor at 931 Ellsworth Dr in Silver Spring has announced that they will be requiring customers to provide proof of vaccination in order to dine inside of their restaurant.
The Eleanor posted the following message on their social media pages:
Earlier today in a media briefing, MCPS informed the public that it will be sorting schools into three categories– green, yellow, and red.
The categories will identify whether individual schools are below the 5% threshold (5% of the population of students and staff testing positive for Covid-19 in a 14 day period).
