Montgomery Parks is hosting the department’s first-ever  Urban Wood Sale on Saturday, November 13, and Sunday, November 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Green Farm Maintenance Facility, 8301 Turkey Thicket Drive in Gaithersburg.

Each year, Montgomery Parks removes hundreds of hazardous dead and dying trees from the park system. Through the department’s Green Waste Recycling Program, some of the removed trees are turned into wood products that are reused within the parks department, such as mulch, compost, and lumber.

Each year, for the past 39 years, the YMCA Bethesda-Chevy Chase and the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rotary have teamed up to host an annual Turkey Chase Charity Race.

Prior to the pandemic, the event was run each year on Thanksgiving Day in Bethesda and was the largest 10K in Montgomery County. This year (as with last year,) the event will be virtual. Participants across the DMV region are invited to walk, run or bike on their own from Nov. 15 to Nov. 30.

As a D.C. suburb, Montgomery County plays a big role in helping make Washington D.C the 7th ranked “large sports city” in the country, according to a new report. While many have jumped ship on the Football Team, the Wizards fast start this season, and the recent success of the Capitals and Nationals has likely been helpful.

With NCAA athletes now able to make money from sponsorships using their name, likeness and image, potentially earning them thousands of dollars per year, the personal-finance website WalletHub released its report on 2021’s Best Sports Cities.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House at 7315 Wisconsin Ave in Bethesda is scheduled to permanently close on December 24, according to Dan Schere at Bethesda Beat.

The decision to close was made after the restaurant determined the sales volume did not justify the expense of a needed remodel, according to the report.
