The Lincoln Assassination Connection, by Susan Soderberg of the Germantown Historical Society 

If you’ve seen the movie The Conspirator you know that George Andrew Atzerodt (alias Andrew Atwood), was one of the Lincoln assassination conspirators executed on July 7, 1865. Atzerodt was arrested in Germantown, the town where he had spent many years as a boy. How he got involved with the Booth gang and why he ended up back in Germantown is a compelling story.


Montgomery Parks

Montgomery Parks has reopened Sligo Creek Parkway, between Piney Branch Road and Wayne Avenue, following two months of closure for the construction of the Maryland Transit Administration’s Purple Line light rail project.

MoCo Government

Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman has entered the race for Montgomery County Council, seeking the District 3 seat that will be open in the 2026 election due to term limits. Montgomery Perspective first reported Ashman’s candidacy in November, shortly after he was re-elected to a third term as mayor of Gaithersburg. Ashman today announced his official campaign launch event scheduled to take place on January 10th.
