Week 4 delivers plenty of intrigue, rivalry games, redemption shots, and one marquee clash that will shape the county’s midseason pecking order.

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich announced a $10 million package of early childhood education initiatives that includes a $6.125 million Head Start and Early Head Start grant, a $4 million facility loan fund for child care providers, and a shared resources collaborative for small providers. Join Us for StoryBox Comics Fair, a two-day festival celebrating local and independent comics authors!

Day 1 – Saturday, June 27th, 11-5pm @ DwightMess compound (805 Silver Spring Ave): Events are open to the public, admission is FREE. Featuring Special Guest Artists, gallery exhibitions, workshops, artist talks, a modeling session (suggested donation) and exhibitors, you can dig in to indie comics and also tour the compound, which features an extensive comics collection, a rare video collection, Risograph and screenprinting studios.


Education

MCPS recently shared on social media that Richard Montgomery High School graduate Liliana Katz-Hollander, a member of the Class of 2025 and a recent Montgomery County Women Making History honoree, has been selected as a recipient of the prestigious GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship. The honor comes with a $40,000 award, distributed as $10,000 annually over four years to support her college education.

The Backyard BOB, a mobile brick oven bistro based in Boyds, has officially closed its food truck operations. The concept began as a dream of owner Bob McMahon, who wanted to create a small pizza-focused catering business for neighborhood and private events. Over time, the idea grew into a full-service mobile kitchen specializing in wood-fired pizzas, paninis, subs, and salads. (more…)
