Gaithersburg native and Watkins Mill High School Class of 2000 graduate Mike Morini has released his debut book, Mild PTSD, an unflinching exploration of the emotional and physical toll of war. Morini, who enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly before the September 11 attacks, draws from his deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan to paint an unvarnished picture of life in combat and its lingering effects.

Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) detectives from the Special Victims Investigations Division have arrested and charged 49-year-old Charles Newton Townsend IV of Gaithersburg with multiple sex offenses involving a child at the Quince Orchard Library and are asking anyone with additional information to contact investigators.

Beyond MoCo

In October, we reported that Zaxbys was entering the Maryland market with three locations along the Eastern Shore. Then, this past spring, Zaxbys announced that it’s planning to open four additional restaurants across Baltimore and Howard counties. Now, Biz Journals reports that the Prince George’s County Planning Board approved the county’s first Zaxby’s location.

Bethesda

2:46pm UPDATE from MCPD: Bethesda-Chevy Chase HS will dismiss students at the regular time. MCPD will remain on scene during dismissal.

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) shared the following information regarding police presence at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School at 2:29pm on Thursday: “There is currently a police presence at Bethesda Chevy Chase High School for what appears to be a swatting call at the school. MCPS has not placed the school on lockdown.”


Crime

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in connection with the armed robbery of a United States Postal Service letter carrier earlier this month here in Montgomery County.
