Crime

Takoma Park Police are investigating a contact shooting that occurred on Wednesday in the 6500 block of New Hampshire Avenue. Police shared that the incident is classified as a contact shooting, meaning the firearm discharged at close range and struck the victim.

MoCo Government

Montgomery County has released a new report showing that Black women and infants face significantly worse maternal and infant health outcomes than other groups, including higher rates of severe maternal morbidity, postpartum depression, and infant mortality. Commissioned by Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles, the report highlights systemic disparities in healthcare access and calls for urgent, equitable reforms ahead of Black Maternal Health Week.

Brown has led a coalition of 19 attorneys general in filing a Supreme Court brief supporting Montgomery County Public Schools’ use of LGBTQ-inclusive books without an opt-out option, arguing it does not violate religious freedom and falls within the authority of public education. Education

A group of innovative student developers is taking a stand for student health and safety in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) with their new platform, Ripple. Led by Eric Huang of Poolesville High School and his fellow classmates Pranav Karthikeyan and Krish Putta from Poolesville, alongside Mehul Jasti from Clarksburg, the team is on a mission to address the maintenance issues that have long affected the daily lives of students throughout the district.
