The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) is implementing changes to nontidal fishing license and trout stamp fees effective June 1, 2025. This represents the first adjustment to nontidal–or freshwater fishing–fees in almost 20 years, addressing the rising costs of maintaining conservation efforts and angler programs in the face of inflation.

Darnestown

Earlier this week, NFL reporter Aaron Wilson shared that TCU  linebacker Johnny Hodges was invited to the Los Angeles Chargers rookie minicamp. Hodges is a Montgomery County native from Darnestown who graduated from Quince Orchard High School in 2019.

Police

The statewide Chiefs’ Challenge, which emphasizes safety restraint enforcement, begins today, Thursday, May 1, and will run through the entire month of May 2025. Police Departments across the nation will participate in the “Click it or Ticket” campaign, which focuses on enforcement of each state’s seat belt laws.

Gaithersburg

Last summer, Eddie V’s Prime Seafood sought approval to build a 10,000 SF restaurant at 151 Lakelands Drive, at the corner of Lakelands Drive and Great Seneca Highway in Gaithersburg– what would be Eddie V’s first Maryland location. The proposal was met with mixed emotions, sparking opposition from many Lakelands residents and prompting a petition that garnered over 100 signatures in the days following the news.

Rockville

A consultant will present a proposal on May 12 to annex 107.9 acres near the Shady Grove Metro Station into Rockville, aiming to expand city boundaries and support transit-oriented development.
