A Montgomery County jury found 77-year-old Patrick Estrella of Clarksburg guilty on two counts of sex abuse of a minor and two counts of third-degree sex offense for sexually assaulting two girls, eight and nine years old, with sentencing set for October and a potential sentence of up to 70 years in prison. Maryland

Attorney General Anthony Brown and a coalition of 23 attorneys general, along with the governors of Kentucky and Pennsylvania, have filed an amended lawsuit accusing the Trump administration’s Office of Management and Budget of unlawfully withholding over $38 million in AmeriCorps funding intended for community service programs across multiple states.

DC Sports

The future of the Washington Commanders’ new stadium at the RFK campus in Washington, D.C., is moving forward with significant developments. The D.C. Council is set to vote on the RFK campus legislation on Friday, August 1, 2025, after reaching a “much-improved agreement” with the Commanders. This vote could pave the way for the team’s return to its historic home.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged two teenagers with an attempted strong-arm carjacking that occurred on Saturday, May 24, 2025, in the 8800 block of Rockville Pike in Bethesda.

Derwood

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) were dispatched to the 7100 block of Blanchard Drive in Derwood on Thursday morning for a reported drowning.

According to MCFRS spokesperson David Pazos, upon arrival, crews found an adult male in cardiac arrest. Firefighters and paramedics initiated aggressive CPR and advanced life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, the man could not be resuscitated.
