According to Maryland Lottery and Gaming, Maryland’s six casinos combined to generate $164,105,250 in revenue from slot machines and table games during December 2024, a decrease of $1,523,913 (-0.9%) compared to December 2023. Casino gaming contributions to the state during December 2024 totaled $69,837,949, a decrease of $357,058 (-0.5%) compared to December 2023. The December 2024 contributions included $50,413,308 to the Education Trust Fund, a decrease of $247,243 (-0.5%) compared to December 2023. (more…)

Montgomery County has announced ongoing efforts to address hazardous conditions caused by the region’s first major snowstorm in three years. Schools will remain closed on Tuesday, Jan. 7, and a snow emergency is still in effect with parking restrictions in place. Government operations, transit services, and trash collections have been adjusted, with residents urged to stay off the roads unless necessary. Per the latest map by the National Weather Service (NWS), an additional 1-2” or 1-3” is expected to fall this afternoon into tonight. The map shows expected snowfall from 1pm Monday until 7am Tuesday, but the precipitation is expected to move out of the area late tonight.

According to its website, MerMagic Con gathers individuals from various aspects of the mermaid industry, offering activities and programs designed for different ages and skill levels.
Clopper Road is named for Clopper Mill, but the history of the mill dates back long before Frances C. Clopper owned it, and the mill is connected with the first government sponsored road in the county, an inheritance suit, and the Lincoln assassination.
