Crime

The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) has arrested 24-year-old Domonique Nicholas Walker of Silver Spring in connection with a series of commercial armed robberies that took place from November 2024 to February 2025.

Joann Fabrics & Crafts has announced it is closing 500 of its 800 stores, including its locations at 2A Bureau Dr in Gaithersburg and 11160 Veirs Mill Rd Unit 180 in Wheaton. Additional Maryland locations closing include Bel Air, Brandywine, California, Columbia, Hagerstown, Frederick, Lavale, Parkville, and Prince Frederick. Business

Rockville-based Compost Crew Inc. (12343 Carroll Ave.) announced its annual results for 2024, which saw the company’s business grow significantly from the prior year. The company collected almost 26 million pounds of food scraps in 2024, an increase of roughly 30% over its 2023 total. The company also exceeded 20,000 homes serviced for the first time, placing Compost Crew among the largest dedicated food scrap recycling companies in the country.
