Montgomery Parks has announced a variety of special events that will take place across the county in the month of April.
Below, you’ll see the full list of events:
April has a lot of opportunities to dust off the winter cobwebs and get moving, including the Cherry Blossom Fun Run/ Walk, Sunset Yoga, Salsa in the Park, and even a chance to exercise your brain with Chess in the Park.
There are also several opportunities to kick back and relax with friends and loved ones; enjoy music, locally crafted beer, and food with Acoustics & Ales, impress everyone with the cocktail making skills you’ll learn at the Craft Cocktail series: The Spirits of Spring, and stop by the Josiah Henson Museum & Park One Year Anniversary for some local history and light refreshment!
April Events at Montgomery Parks include:
Cherry Blossom Fun Run/ Walk| Saturday, April 2 | South Germantown Recreational Park
Walk or run the 1.0-mile trail and learn the history of how the trees came to call this area home. At the end of the trail, create your own full bloom at our crafting station, and pick up a FREE Arbor Day tree seedling. Food and refreshments from Flower coffee co. will be available for purchase. This is a FREE family-friendly event from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, dogs are welcome and must remain leashed.
Sunset Yoga | Thursdays, April 14, April 21, and April 28 | Long Branch-Arliss Neighborhood Park
Join Montgomery Parks with instruction by Thrive Yoga studio for beginner yoga from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm at Long Branch-Arliss Neighborhood Park. Take the hour to decompress from your work week and learn new poses that will enhance your mind, body, and soul. This drop-in event is free with step-by-step instructions offered in English and Spanish with pose modifications. No equipment or registration is necessary, just stop by!
Salsa in the Park| Thursday, April 14 | Columbia Local Park
Salsa in the Park will feature free dance lessons from Salsa with Silvia and live music by local band Ocho de Bastos. The event takes place from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and will have food and beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) for purchase from local vendors and will also spotlight community organizations that will be providing fun activities, giveaways, and resources. Invitamos tanto a los salseros como los amantes de la música en vivo, a que vengan a experimentar y apreciar la rica cultura de la música y el baile latinoamericanos en Salsa en el Parque.
Acoustics & Ales | Friday, April 22 | Elm Street Urban Park
Adults and children welcome! Stop by Elm Street Urban Park from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm to enjoy nonalcoholic beverages as well as craft beer from True Respite Brewing and 7 Locks Brewing, food from Pop Up Poutine Food Truck, and Giacomo’s Brick Oven Pizza with musical guest Ted Garber. Registration is not required
Josiah Henson Museum & Park One Year Anniversary | Saturday, April 23 | Josiah Henson Museum & Park
Josiah Henson Museum & Park is turning one. Join Montgomery Parks on Saturday, April 23 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm to celebrate! Enjoy light refreshments and a $1 dollar admission. The Josiah Henson Museum & Park opened in April 2021 and is the first museum in the United States dedicated to Reverend Josiah Henson. It is built on the former plantation in North Bethesda where Henson was enslaved prior to self-emancipating to Canada.
Craft Cocktail Series: The Spirits of Spring | Wednesday, April 27 | Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park
Join Montgomery Parks on Wednesday, April 27 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park for the Craft Cocktail series: The Spirits of Spring, featuring locally distilled organic liquors from McClintock Distilling. Learn how to muddle, mix, and strain the perfect cocktail for every occasion. Whether you’re making a drink for one, or for a whole party, this class will prep you for it all. Registration for this class is $48.00 per person and includes your admission, all ingredients and supplies, and a take-home recipe card. You must be 21+ to register and participate.
Acoustics & Ales| Friday, April 29 | Fairview Road Urban Park
Adults and children welcome! Stop by Fairview Road Urban Park from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm to enjoy nonalcoholic beverages as well as craft beer from AstroLab Brewing and Silver Branch Brewing Company, food from Catalyst Hot Dogs and a special musical guest.
Chess in the Park | Saturday, April 30 | Fairview Road Urban Park
Checkmate! Join Montgomery Parks and the U.S Chess Center at Chess in the Park! On Saturday, April 30, at Fairview Road Urban Park from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, players ages 14 and under are invited to participate in an outdoor, drop-in chess tournament. Registration is recommended, but not required. Parents, families, and spectators are encouraged and will be able, to watch their loved ones play. Pop-Up Patisserie will be onsite selling food and drinks.
