Tom Hucker Withdraws From County Executive Race; Will Run For At-Large County Council Seat Instead

by MCS Staff

WTOP’s Kate Ryan reports that Montgomery County Councilmember Tom Hucker has withdrawn his name from the County Executive race.

Hucker, who currently represents District 5 as a Councilmember, announced that he had formed an “exploratory” committee ahead of an expected bid back in July of 2021 before officially filing in December of last year.

Per the WTOP report: “I’ve had many conversations with residents countywide who encouraged me to address the serious challenges ahead of us from the next county council, particularly because it will have a majority of new members,” Hucker said.

Hucker will enter the race for an At-Large County Council seat against Brandy Brooks, who recently suspended her campaign,  Dana Gassaway, Scott Goldberg, and Laurie-Anne Sayles.

The Democratic primary for the County Executive race now includes incumbent Marc Elrich, businessman David Blair, and Councilmember Hans Riemer.

The Republican primary will consist of just Reardon Sullivan, the chairman of MoCo’s GOP committee, who recently announced his candidacy.
