Update: Trucker Convoy Protesting COVID-19 Mandates to Circle Beltway Beginning Today

by Patrick Herron

A large trucker convoy that has been stationed the past few days in Hagerstown, MD have said they plan on driving around Washington, DC and shut down the beltway beginning today.

A convoy leader told The Washington Post that the truckers plan to leave Hagerstown at 9:30am Sunday morning and  will loop the beltway twice at the minimum legal speed.

The convoy intends to repeat this each day this week until the group’s demands are met, according to the article. It is unclear at this time exactly what those demands are.

The convoy plans to shut down the Capital Beltway in protest of COVID-19 vaccine and mask mandates, and are inspired by the several weeks long “Freedom Covoy” protests that occurred in Ottawa, Canada last month.

Several readers have reached out and told us that the protest is not specifically about COVID-19 mandates, but also high gas prices, Biden, the 2020 election, freedom, and “globalists”.

It is unclear if the convoy will actually attempt to enter DC.

We will be posting updates throughout the day.

Are there minimum speeds posted on 495 and 95? If not, then the minimum is not well defined by Maryland or Virginia laws.

A convoy of anti-vax truckers looping around DC is akin to a dog chasing its own tail …. i.e., a momentary thrill, but ultimately a complete waste of time and energy.
