One of Gaithersburg’s most beloved Halloween traditions is back… and it’s bigger, spookier, and more meaningful than ever. The Spooktacular Halloween display known as Spider Manor has returned to the Kentlands at 237 Little Quarry Road, welcoming visitors every day throughout October. Robert (Bob) David Youngentob, the Executive Chairman and founding partner of Bethesda-based EYA, LLC, passed away on October 18, 2025, at the age of 64, following a battle with cancer, according to an online obituary. Youngentob, a longtime Montgomery County resident and one of the region’s most respected developers, was widely recognized for shaping urban living across the Washington metropolitan area.

Roberto Clemente Middle School (RCMS) in Germantown hosted its first-ever Fiesta Latina on Tuesday, October 8th, and by all accounts, the event was a huge success. The all-day celebration brought together students, staff, and community members to honor Hispanic Heritage Month with music, learning, and schoolwide excitement.

The Frederick community is coming together to support one of its own, Jacob, affectionately known as “the oven guy” at dōp pizza. Jacob has long been considered the heart of the restaurant’s operation, known for his dedication behind the pizza oven, first on the original trailer setup and now at the RAK Yard kitchen.

The partnership is the latest in a series of high-profile projects for Clemens, whose Telfar brand has become one of the most influential forces in modern fashion.

The annual Kentlands Bar Crawl saw record participation this year, with approximately 150 attendees coming together to raise funds for a good cause. The event, held over the weekend, brought in nearly $1,500 for Comfort Cases, a nonprofit organization that supports children entering the foster care system by providing them with backpacks filled with personal care items and comfort essentials.

A founder of Maryland’s Muslim community, Mrs. Sakina A. Mohammed, wife of (late) Dr. Azizali F. Mohammed, died peacefully at home on 3:12 pm on Friday October 3, 2025 at age 92. She was the beloved mother of Zeba (Stephen), Afroze, Arshad (Lois), and Mehnaz (Mini) and sister of Mr. Amin Nathani.

In less than 48 hours after the federal government shutdown was announced, two local organizers, Tiffany Kelly and Valarie Davis, mobilized a countywide effort to provide immediate relief to Montgomery County residents affected. The “Rapid Response Event” is taking place at Gaithersburg High School on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 7 pm to 9 pm.

In early September, we shared the news of Gaithersburg Rental Center’s plan to close later in the month. The business, located at 219 E Diamond Avenue, closed on September 23rd after nearly nine decades as a trusted local business and community staple following the sale of the property it operated on. The community said goodbye on the business’s last Facebook last and some of the comments can be seen below.
