Two employees of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) were charged in connection with making an unauthorized copy of Airports Authority records that appeared to be surveillance video from the airport showing the American Airlines jet colliding with an Army helicopter last week.
Back in October, Baltimore Police arrested 24-year-old John Callis of Baltimore following the brutal assault that was captured in a viral video of the man assaulting two Washington Commanders fans following this past season’s Ravens/Commanders game. The man was arrested, and today he was sentenced.
Montgomery County Police 4th District (4D) officers and specialized teams recently made multiple arrests, recovered stolen vehicles, and closed robbery cases, including the January 30 arrest of a robbery suspect in Wheaton, the January 31 arrest of two suspects linked to a November 2024 robbery, and the recovery of two stolen vehicles near Veirs Mill & Randolph Rd, leading to four arrests and drug seizures. The Gaithersburg Police Department (GBPD) have arrested 31-year-old Jovani Ramos in connection with a stabbing at Cancun Mexican Restaurant on December 26, 2024, charging him with attempted second-degree murder and multiple assault offenses, and he is currently being held without bond.
On Friday, Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) officers arrested a suspect who left a Glenmont 7-11 with a suspicious bulge and entered a white Nissan Altima on Georgia Ave with a passenger holding a handgun, leading to the recovery of a Glock 27 and two loaded magazines. (more…)
Elmer Lopez-Cortez, 26, of Silver Spring, and Junior Del-Cid, 21, of Takoma Park, were each sentenced to life in prison without parole, plus three consecutive life sentences and 105 years, for the 2022 MS-13 gang-related murder of 19-year-old Willians Anderson Alberto Cruz and the attempted murder of three others in Montgomery County. Three former MVA employees were convicted for their roles in a bribery and identity fraud scheme that involved selling fraudulent driving credentials and allowing imposters to take written tests on behalf of applicants.
A hit-and-run in Gaithersburg on January 27, 2025, led to a stolen vehicle, a home invasion in Germantown, and an armed police pursuit across state lines, ending in Virginia with the arrest of 32-year-old Esmeraldo Martinez De La Cruz, who was reported missing from New York along with his 4-year-old daughter. Martinez now faces multiple charges in both Virginia and Montgomery County. (more…)
