Per MCPD: “At approximately 12:49 p.m., officers received a call for a man unconscious, near the initial call, in the 18300 block of Lost Knife Cir. Upon arrival, officers located Alan Garnica of Gaithersburg, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite lifesaving efforts, Garnica was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two La Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang members were sentenced for conspiracy to commit murder in aid of racketeering in connection with their participation in the Weedams Locos Salvatrucha (WLS) clique of the MS-13 gang. Jorge Isaac Argueta Chica, aka Timido and Enano, 23, of Gaithersburg was sentenced last week to six years in prison. Endy Arturo Gaitan Campos, aka Clandestino, 30, of Hyattsville, Maryland, was sentenced yesterday to 10 years in prison.

Per MCPD: Montgomery County Department of Police detectives continue to investigate the Stewart Ln. block party shooting that occurred on Friday, June 2, 2023, where a 16-year-old girl was shot. No suspects are in custody at this time and detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect(s).

During the investigation, detectives learned that a group of people were at the block party when a dark colored sedan with possibly three to four occupants, drove up and began firing into the crowd. Except for the teenage girl, no one else was injured during the shooting. Three cars parked at an apartment building were hit by bullets. Officers recovered over 30 shell casings at the crime scene from a handgun and high-powered rifle.


Per MCPD: “A 13-year-old male has been arrested and charged with the shooting that occurred on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, in the 1500 block of November Circle in Silver Spring.  Through the course of the investigation, detectives from the 3rd District Investigative Section identified the teen as one of the suspects and shared the information with officers from the 3rd District Community Action Team (3D DCAT).

On Friday, November 3, 2023, 3D DCAT officers were conducting proactive patrol in the 11500 block of Stewart Lane when they observed a black Toyota Rav4 commit traffic violations and pulled it over in the area of New Hampshire Avenue and Elton Road.

It also can involve a person displaying a non-threatening, bigoted, biased, or prejudiced message or image in certain contexts. Although deeply hurtful and offensive, hate incidents do not violate criminal law.

What to Do if You Believe that You are the Victim of, or Witness a Hate Crime or Bias-Related Incident…REPORT IT! Dial 9-1-1 in an emergency. In a non-emergency, dial 240-314-8900 to contact the Rockville City Police. For your own safety do not take it upon yourself to confront perpetrators. Do not clean up or destroy any evidence related to the crime until after the police arrive and investigate. Ask the police what services are available to you.


Per MCPD: “A third suspect wanted in connection with the March 5, 2023 shooting death of Deandre Keith Ellis has been arrested. D’Andre Lukes was located in Drums, PA and taken into custody by Butler Township Police. The 21-year-old is currently being held in PA, as he awaits extradition to Montgomery County. Ellis was shot and killed inside of a car outside of the Sweet Sweet Kitchen in the 900 block of Bonifant Street. A fourth suspect, 24-year-old D’Angelo Holley, remains at large.

Per the United State’s Attorney’s Office: “Quaysa Flumo, 35, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced today to 234 months in prison and Emmanuel Sumo, 29, of Takoma Park, Md., was sentenced to 214 months for a string of armed robberies that struck a series of gas stations, liquor stores, convenience stores, and restaurants in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, all within a four-week period in 2018.

According to the government’s evidence, Flumo and Sumo were members of a trio – which included Enyinna “Reggie” Onyewu, 31, of Silver Spring, Md. – and were found guilty by a jury in U.S. District Court on March 28, 2022, of federal conspiracy, robbery, and (for Flumo and Sumo) related weapons charges. The government’s evidence showed that Onyewu took part in five of the robberies; Sumo in seven of the robberies; and Flumo in all 10 of the robberies.


Per MCPD: “Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Investigative Section are investigating a shooting that occurred on Thursday, October 26, 2023, in the 1000 block of Ruatan Street in Silver Spring. Detectives have released surveillance video of the two groups of suspects and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying them.  At approximately 4:24 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to the location for the report of a shooting.

The investigation by detectives has revealed that two groups of individuals exchanged gunfire on the side and the front areas of an apartment building on Ruatan Street. After the shooting, group one left the scene on foot toward Quebec Terrace, while group two left from the rear of the building and drove away in a white Honda Civic, which had tinted windows, a white rear spoiler and black rims.  A large number of shell casings were recovered from the crime scene.
