State Law Enforcement Returns to Baltimore as Moore Focuses on Reducing Violent Crime

Governor Wes Moore and Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott announced the reinstatement of state law enforcement resources to support Baltimore’s public safety efforts, marking a renewed collaboration between state and local agencies to reduce violent crime. The partnership leverages personnel from the Maryland State Police and Maryland Transportation Authority Police to assist the Baltimore Police Department, following record declines in homicides and shootings and aiming to further improve community safety through coordinated enforcement and resource sharing. Two Men Shot Friday Night in Silver Spring

MCPD Update: “At approximately 9:46 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to Long Branch Local Park in the 700 block of Langley Drive, for reports of shots fired. Officers located two adult males with apparent gunshot wounds near the rear of the basketball court by the playground.

One victim was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. His current status has not been confirmed. Despite life-saving efforts, the second victim was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, no suspect information is available and no arrests have been made. A news release will be distributed once more information is available, including the name of the decedent, following proper next-of-kin notification.” (more…)

Police Arrest Three, Seize Firearms After Illegal Car Rally Investigation

Maryland State Police arrested three men from Prince George’s and Charles counties and seized multiple firearms following a Maryland Car Rally Task Force investigation tied to an illegal car rally involving about 300 people in the Baltimore Metro Region on June 29, 2025. Search warrants executed on September 3 led to additional firearm seizures, and the suspects face various charges related to unlawful vehicle use, firearm possession, and ammunition violations.

Gaithersburg Man Charged in Library Child Sex Abuse Case

Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) detectives from the Special Victims Investigations Division have arrested and charged 49-year-old Charles Newton Townsend IV of Gaithersburg with multiple sex offenses involving a child at the Quince Orchard Library and are asking anyone with additional information to contact investigators.

$150,000 Reward Offered in Montgomery County Letter Carrier Robbery Investigation

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in connection with the armed robbery of a United States Postal Service letter carrier earlier this month here in Montgomery County.
