MCPD Update: “At approximately 9:46 p.m., 3rd District officers responded to Long Branch Local Park in the 700 block of Langley Drive, for reports of shots fired. Officers located two adult males with apparent gunshot wounds near the rear of the basketball court by the playground.

One victim was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. His current status has not been confirmed. Despite life-saving efforts, the second victim was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, no suspect information is available and no arrests have been made. A news release will be distributed once more information is available, including the name of the decedent, following proper next-of-kin notification.” (more…)

Maryland State Police arrested three men from Prince George’s and Charles counties and seized multiple firearms following a Maryland Car Rally Task Force investigation tied to an illegal car rally involving about 300 people in the Baltimore Metro Region on June 29, 2025. Search warrants executed on September 3 led to additional firearm seizures, and the suspects face various charges related to unlawful vehicle use, firearm possession, and ammunition violations.

Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) detectives from the Special Victims Investigations Division have arrested and charged 49-year-old Charles Newton Townsend IV of Gaithersburg with multiple sex offenses involving a child at the Quince Orchard Library and are asking anyone with additional information to contact investigators.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in connection with the armed robbery of a United States Postal Service letter carrier earlier this month here in Montgomery County.
