The Washington Commanders announced that they hosted 20 local prospects for a “local pro day” on Tuesday, April 9th. The players all have ties to the DMV, “Most of the other 19 prospects invited to Ashburn, Virginia, either played high school football in the DMV or attended college in the area.” Full list of players below:

John Carlson is expected to play in his 1,000th career game tonight against Boston. According to the Washington Capitals, Carlson will become the first defenseman and third player in franchise history to play 1,000 games with the Capitals, joining teammates Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom. Carlson is also a Montgomery County resident and his wife, Gina, is a MoCo native.

Today, Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s Founder, Chairman, Principal Partner, and CEO, Ted Leonsis, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, and D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson announced an agreement for a “transformative renovation and modernization of Capital One Arena and an expansion of Monumental’s business and hospitality operations next door into Gallery Place for a revitalized entertainment destination in Downtown D.C..”

The City of Alexandria has ended negotiations related to the Potomac Yard Entertainment District opportunity that would’ve included the Capitals and Wizards, stating that the proposal will not move forward, according to a press release by the City of Alexandria on Wednesday.


Updated to reflect the team’s six agreements on Monday.

The Washington Commanders had the most salary cap space in the NFL going into the first “unofficial” day of free agency. As of 11pm, they have agreed to terms with four potential starters. The team also has the second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, which takes place next month.


NFL Free Agency unofficially opened at noon today, and the Washington Commanders have plenty of money to spend. The team also have the second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft next month and nobody is sure on who the Commanders will take, with the pick likely being a quarterback. Today the Washington Commanders announced additional upgrades to FedExField, bringing targeted investments in improving the stadium and fan and player experience to a total of more than $75 million once completed since new ownership purchased the team in July.
