Residents of Maryland and the DC Metro area are already wondering what kind of winter 2025–2026 will bring, and two of the country’s best-known long-range forecasters are offering very different outlooks. The Farmers’ Almanac and the Old Farmer’s Almanac, each using their own traditional forecasting methods, have released predictions that highlight the uncertainty of what lies ahead.

Two Maryland restaurants have landed on Washingtonian’s latest list of “5 New Breakfast and Brunch Spots to Check Out Around DC.Bouboulina in North Bethesda and Lapu Lapu, which has a location in Gaithersburg, are both drawing attention for their distinct approaches to the brunch experience.

Two Maryland bakeries have been recognized among the region’s best, earning spots on Eater DC’s newly released list of “Where to Order Fabulous Cakes for Any Occasion Around D.C.” While there are many wonderful bakeries in Maryland, this roundup highlights Classic Bakery, which began in Gaithersburg and has since expanded to Tysons, Virginia and Olney, Maryland, as well as Sweet Hearts Patisserie in Annapolis.

Songwriters in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. are invited to compete for $10,000 and a chance to perform on one of the region’s premier stages. Applications are now open for the 10th Anniversary Bernard/Ebb Songwriting Awards, founded by Cathy Bernard to honor her uncle, Broadway legend Fred Ebb (Cabaret, Chicago, New York, New York). The competition culminates in a live concert featuring the finalists at the Music Center at Strathmore right here in Montgomery County on April 24, 2026.
