Aug. 25, 2024 was a lucky day for Carlos Gamez, a Washington, D.C. resident who enjoys playing the Lottery in his home territory as well as in neighboring Maryland and Virginia. On that day, he won more than $50,000 playing a DC Lottery game. Two and a half months after winning that prize, he won $25,000 in Montgomery County.

On Thursday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that officers at Washington Dulles Airport had seized 28 pounds of cocaine worth $900,000, concealed inside hot chocolate packages in a Guatemalan courier shipment in October. The courier was detained but later released and deported after prosecutors could not establish a direct connection to the drugs.
The Montgomery County Police, in partnership with Homeland Security and IRS-CI, announced it has led a successful investigation dismantling a Prince George’s County theft and fencing ring trafficking stolen goods worth $270,000 from major retailers and generating over $1 million in untaxed revenue with merchandise shipped to South America. The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL), which was founded by Montgomery Village natives Paul and Mike Rabil, has launched the Women’s Lacrosse League (WLL)– a new professional women’s lacrosse property set to debut at the 2025 PLL Championship Series, featuring the best lacrosse players in the world.

The 2024 Festival of Lights will take place from December 5, 2024 to January 1, 2025 at the Washington DC Temple (9900 Stoneybrook Dr in Kensington, MD). At the Festival of Lights, over 500,000 Christmas lights illuminate the temple grounds to ring in the season and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. The lights will turn on each night at 4:45 PM and go off at 9:00 PM each evening.
