Back in June we let you know that a Nike Unite store is coming to Downtown Silver Spring, taking over the location that was formerly home to DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse location at 910 Ellsworth Drive. After previously setting an opening date of November 3rd on its Google listing, the store pushed back the opening to “2023”, and then set an opening date of Thursday, February 2nd. The date has been pushed back again to Thursday, February 16th, according to its Google listing. This was first reported by Source of the Spring.

An employee at a different Nike Unite store told us that the pricing and products offered at a Unite store are similar to that of a Nike Factory store (often found at outlets), with a slightly different layout and a specific return section for items purchased on Nike.com. Nike describes the Nike Unite concept as: “Existing to serve and celebrate the people in each local community, and each store is designed to be a reflection of their heart and spirit. Consumers are welcomed by an in-store community wall highlighting the store team and local partnerships, and design elements throughout the space also look to tell the story of the community. From local landmarks to hometown athletes, the design allows the local residents to feel represented in the space. The products in each Nike Unite door are also reflective of what the community is interested in: locally curated, every-day essentials at the best price, matched with the newness of select seasonal offerings. Additionally, Nike Unite doors reflect Nike’s commitment to hiring people who live in the local community.”

Update: Nike Unite has pushed the opening date back to Thursday, February 16th.

The Breakfast Club plans to open on Thursday, December 22, at 8240 Fenton Street in Downtown Silver Spring, according to a report by Source of the Spring. The restaurant, which will feature breakfast all day, but will also have lunch and dinner menu items, is inspired by “Papa Sherman” who is owner Jason Miskiri’s father.

The Breakfast Club’s menu will include omelets, French toast stuffed with cream cheese and strawberries, and pancakes, according to a previous report by Bethesda Beat “Additionally, there will be heavier entrees, such as lamb chops, chicken and waffles, and shrimp and grits.” The Breakfast Club was originally aiming for a March opening, but has run into construction supply chain issues during buildout. “We have slowed down because of the materials being on backorder. This is true throughout the country,” Miskiri said to Source of the Spring last March.

The Copper Canyon Grill at 928 Ellsworth Dr in Silver Spring officially reopened on Tuesday, October 18.  A kitchen fire closed the location back on July 12.  In addition to the $1 million in repairs and renovations that were just completed, the restaurant has announced plans for future upgrades to its bar and the addition of a sushi station and a chef’s table. Copper Canyon has an additional MoCo location in Gaithersburg (Rio) and it’s sister restaurant the Stanford Grill has a location in Rockville.

Per Copper CanyonThe Copper Canyon Grill in Silver Spring is celebrating its Grand Reopening on Tuesday, October 18th, just in time for the holidays.  Copper Canyon Grill’s legacy as one of the more successful restaurants in Downtown Silver Spring Shopping Center will continue on.    The restaurant was temporarily closed for repairs due to a fire that occurred in an exhaust shaft in July.  Although there was very little damage to the restaurant, the owners decided to take extra time and measures to ensure that all the related systems were reengineered and rebuilt within current building codes. The company’s Director of Operations, Erick Cooper, stated that “the future safety of our guests and employees was too important to hurry through this process”.
