Two Montgomery County elementary schools have been recognized for academic excellence and equity after earning 2025-2026 Maryland Blue Ribbon School honors. Wilson Wims Elementary School marked the achievement with a schoolwide celebration on January 7, while Diamond Elementary School followed with its own celebration on January 9.

The Roberto Clemente Middle School community in Germantown is mourning the loss of longtime Building Service employee Charles “Charlie” Ellison Jr., a familiar and deeply respected presence at the school for decades. Ellison passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at his home in Germantown. He was 70 years old.

It’s rare to still be connected to your high school 50 years later; more so to come back after nearly 70 years and be able to see your legacy in fruition. On Wednesday, Dec. 3, the first SGA president in WJ history, Bill Hiatt Jr, class of 1958, returned to his alma mater.


Blake High School alumnus Michael Creppy Jr. has reached a major milestone with the debut of his first feature documentary, “Imported,” now streaming on Hulu. The milestone was previously highlighted by Brandy Simms on Sports Illustrated.

As the new year gets underway, several key MCPS calendar dates in January and February are important for families, students, and staff to keep in mind, including holidays, non-instructional days, and an early release.
