Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students have outperformed their peers across the state, according to an MCPS press release. According to the press release, the school system saw notable growth in secondary grades and on results from the 2024-2025 Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP).

High school volleyball is back in MoCo, and the energy is off the charts. Some of the area’s top athletes are coming off electric club seasons, ready to showcase their skills on the high school stage. But with new teammates, new roles, and a mix of rising stars and seasoned vets, the big question remains: will they still dominate, and which squads will rise to make a serious run this fall? Seneca Valley High School’s newest music teacher, Mr. Gage, is tuning up for the academic year in a way you’ve probably never seen before. Gage has spent the last six years at Neelsville Middle School, and has taught in public schools for 8 years. Instead of a typical introductory email or slideshow, he’s created a head-banging, genre-bending music video to introduce himself to his students (video below).

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has installed vape detection systems in all high school student bathrooms. According to MCPS, “The sensors provide school administrators with an important tool to address the issue of vape device use in schools and to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for students, staff and visitors. These sensors detect vape emissions, including those from nicotine and THC (the active ingredient in marijuana).”
