Opening night for the fall sports season is Wednesday, Sept. 3. The MCPS Athletics Safety Plan drives operations and procedures for athletic events.
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has introduced the Refrigerator Curriculum– a “one-page, easy-to-read overview of what students will be learning each marking period.”

According to the press release, the school system saw notable growth in secondary grades and on results from the 2024-2025 Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP).

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich was joined this week by Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor for his media briefing. Elrich shared that he has “enjoyed working with him” and has been “impressed by his leadership and the direction he is taking the school district in.” Elrich shared the following regarding the new MCPS cell phone policy:
Seneca Valley High School’s newest music teacher, Mr. Gage, is tuning up for the academic year in a way you’ve probably never seen before. Gage has spent the last six years at Neelsville Middle School, and has taught in public schools for 8 years. Instead of a typical introductory email or slideshow, he’s created a head-banging, genre-bending music video to introduce himself to his students (video below).
The Board of Education approved the following administrative appointments, which includes three principal appointments, on Thursday, Aug. 21:
Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has installed vape detection systems in all high school student bathrooms. According to MCPS, “The sensors provide school administrators with an important tool to address the issue of vape device use in schools and to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for students, staff and visitors. These sensors detect vape emissions, including those from nicotine and THC (the active ingredient in marijuana).”
