Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) announced another update to their plan to revamp secondary school magnets during their July 24 meeting after incorporating community feedback. Currently, their recommendation calls for a major overhaul to the current countywide and consortium-based magnet model with a new six-region structure beginning with the class of 2031. Students in graduating classes before then will be allowed to remain in the programs they are currently enrolled in.

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is introducing a new, full-day initiative for the 2025–2026 school year called Student Transition Day on Monday, August 25th. Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School (B-CC) is undergoing a leadership transition as Principal Dr. Shelton Mooney has made the decision to step down and has accepted a new role within Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), according to a letter sent to the B-CC community. Dr. Mooney will be moving to James Hubert Blake High School to serve as an assistant principal, a change from an earlier communication that had placed him at Albert Einstein High School.
The Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA) has voiced profound concern over disruptions to educator pay, stemming from issues with Montgomery County Public Schools’ (MCPS) new payment platform, MCPS Hub+. The union has filed a class action grievance against the school system in response to ongoing problems, the latest of which has left some employees without timely compensation. Today, we turn our lens to the last five programs still waiting for their moment, four in the revamped 3A West and Poolesville, flying solo in 2A. The truth is, this group carries a disproportionate share of instability, inconsistency, and introspection. For some, 2025 represents a clean slate. For others, it’s about just staying afloat.

MCPS has announced that five students were awarded college/university-sponsored National Merit scholarships financed by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), bringing the total number of MCPS Merit Scholars up to 45 for this year.
