The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) has announced the three finalists for the 2025 National High School Assistant Principal of the Year award, with La Faye Howard, Assistant Principal at Winston Churchill High School, being recognized as one of the distinguished finalists.

Montgomery County Public Schools, in partnership with the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, recognized regional winners of the Math, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA) program, where students showcased innovative projects addressing societal concerns. In an inspiring initiative aimed at supporting educators and fostering community spirit, local teachers Krystal Putman and Rachel Savadow have launched a “Buy Nothing Group” specifically for Montgomery County teachers and their supporters. This group seeks to connect generous community members with teachers in need of classroom supplies, resources, and support.

At Hallie Wells Middle School in Clarksburg, a compassionate initiative known as the Care Closet is making a significant impact on students’ lives. Conceived in 2021 by parent Mrs. Sonal Purohit, who was then the PTSA president, the Care Closet was designed to provide essential everyday items to students who may not have access to them. Dr. Carla McNeal, the principal of Hallie Wells, highlights the importance of this resource in fostering a supportive school environment.
The Seneca Valley and Northwest High School communities are mourning the sudden loss of Dominique Perry– a paraeducator and football coach at Seneca Valley High School in Germantown who graduated from nearby Northwest High School in Germantown in 2020.
FOX5’s Homa Bash reported that Magruder High School in Derwood recently faced a significant disruption when a portion of the auditorium ceiling fell during a spring musical production of “Once Upon a Mattress.” Despite the alarming incident the show continued with a brief pause, but it did raise urgent safety concerns regarding the aging infrastructure of the nearly 55-year-old school.
