MCPS recently shared the news of John Chase, math resource teacher at Walter Johnson High School, winning the Carl B. Allendoerfer Award for expository mathematical writing from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), for an article he co-wrote, “Bacterial Growth: Not So Simple,” in Mathematics Magazine.

On Thursday, Sean McGee, Associate Superintendent of School Support and Well-Being for MCPS, announced that the school system had decided to temporarily pause the selection process for Montgomery Blair High School’s next principal. The search will resume during the 2024-2025 school year. Kevin Yates, the current principal of Damascus High School who is retiring from his position on July 1, will serve as the acting principal of Montgomery Blair High School starting August 15, 2024. MCPS recently highlighted 2024 graduate, Edna Reyes’ successful journey to this year’s graduation. She has navigated and completed three programs simultaneously and earned a recognition for students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages in high school.

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has shared that this year 1,179 employees are eligible for recognition (15, 25, and 35 years of service), according to Department of Employee and Retiree Services records. Of these employees, 578 have completed 15 years, 517 have completed 25 years, and 84 have completed 35 years. The list includes years of service with MCPS only (which may be different than years of service credited for retirement) and can be seen below:
