Wootton High School in Rockville was evacuated Monday morning after staff reported a gas smell near the building’s boiler room. Students and staff were directed out of the building around the start of the school day and moved to outdoor athletic areas as a precaution.

The Montgomery County Board of Education today accepted the superintendent’s recommended FY 2027 Capital Budget and the FY 2027–2032 Capital Improvements Program (CIP), advancing what MCPS refers to as “one of the most significant and strategically focused facility efforts in more than a decade.”

Second-year MCPS Construction Trades Foundation students visited the Associated Builders and Contractors Metro-Washington training center for an immersive look at construction apprenticeship opportunities. According to the release, the partnership allows students to earn industry-recognized credentials, meet hiring employers, and explore pathways that continue into post-secondary apprenticeships.
