We’ve reached the midpoint of the season, and Montgomery County’s pecking order is starting to crystallize. Quince Orchard and Sherwood headline the slate in what could be a preview of two state finalist, but plenty of other teams are fighting for playoff positioning or pride. Here’s how this week’s matchups stack up:


On Thursday, October 2, Wootton Robotics, in partnership with Bonchon Rockville, held a Robotics Fair at Rockville Town Center. The event featured robotics mini games, Build Your Bots and Battle Bots tournaments, and live music, offering young participants a hands-on introduction to robotics and the FIRST Tech Challenge program. The addition of girls flag football to Montgomery County last fall was more than just a pilot, it was a revelation. The sport quickly became one of the county’s fastest-growing and most exciting offerings, capped by Clarksburg’s march to the inaugural state title in November. This fall, momentum has only accelerated.

In addition to photos of classmates and teachers, old yearbooks are full of fun snapshots of the era they were created. We recently flipped through the 1999 edition of Watkins Mill High School’s yearbook, Grinder, and found a playful feature titled “‘99 Things You Never Knew About Watkins Mill.” Some of the references are inside jokes best remembered by students and staff from that time, but many are fun facts about the Watkins Mill Wolverines that everyone can enjoy. Montgomery County Councilmembers Kate Stewart and Evan Glass urged MCPS and the Board of Education to improve the Capital Improvements Program (CIP) process, citing inefficiencies, unreliable cost projections, and poor community engagement. They pointed to the $40 million Silver Spring International Middle School project, which failed to address key concerns, as an example of the need for better planning, transparency, and incorporation of community feedback to ensure future school facility upgrades meet actual needs.
