MCPS has shared that Richard Ensley, a first grade teacher at Diamond Elementary School in Gaithersburg, is this year’s winner of the Shirley J. Lowrie “Thank You for Teaching” Award. He won a $2,500 prize for being named the winner.

On April 22, The Washington Post announced the winners and finalists for its 2025 Principal and Teacher of the Year Awards. Each year, the publication recognizes those who demonstrate exceptional school leadership and contribute significantly to advancing education in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. On Monday, April 14, Sandy Spring Friends School (SSFS), located at 16923 Norwood Rd in Sandy Spring, MD, announced its intention to close following the conclusion of the 2024-25 school year. However, members of the “Friends of Sandy Spring” coalition, including alumna Bonnie Imlay (SSFS Class of 2003), have pledged $15 million to save the school.

Detectives from the Community Engagement Division- Behavioral Assessment and Administrative Unit (BAAU) have charged a 17-year-old student after making threats against a Montgomery County Public School. The specific school was not named by the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD).

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) in Montgomery Village have seen an increasing problem with vehicles illegally parked on school properties overnight, according to the Montgomery Village Foundation (MVF).
Our Lady of Good Counsel (17301 Old Vic Blvd. in Olney) announced in a letter to the community in Tuesday that former MCPS principal Edward Owusu has been named the high school’s next principal. Owusu served as the principal of Clarksburg High School from 2017 until his retirement from MCPS on January 1st, 2024. The full announcement can be seen below:
