On April 22, The Washington Post announced the winners and finalists for its 2025 Principal and Teacher of the Year Awards. Each year, the publication recognizes those who demonstrate exceptional school leadership and contribute significantly to advancing education in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. MCPS shared that earlier this month, on April 10, Dr. Genevieve Floyd, Director of the Division of Career & Postsecondary Partnerships and Career Advising, welcomed 125 Business Management & Finance students from nine high schools. They came to cheer on and support 25 team members competing in the 2025 Business Pitch Challenge—a “Shark Tank”-style competition for entrepreneurship students. The winners are:

On Monday, April 14, Sandy Spring Friends School (SSFS), located at 16923 Norwood Rd in Sandy Spring, MD, announced its intention to close following the conclusion of the 2024-25 school year. However, members of the “Friends of Sandy Spring” coalition, including alumna Bonnie Imlay (SSFS Class of 2003), have pledged $15 million to save the school.

Our Lady of Good Counsel (17301 Old Vic Blvd. in Olney) announced in a letter to the community in Tuesday that former MCPS principal Edward Owusu has been named the high school’s next principal. Owusu served as the principal of Clarksburg High School from 2017 until his retirement from MCPS on January 1st, 2024. The full announcement can be seen below:
