Maryland Attorney General Leads Coalition Defending MCPS LGBTQ-Inclusive Curriculum at Supreme Court
Attorney General Anthony G. Brown has led a coalition of 19 attorneys general in filing a Supreme Court brief supporting Montgomery County Public Schools’ use of LGBTQ-inclusive books without an opt-out option, arguing it does not violate religious freedom and falls within the authority of public education. A group of innovative student developers is taking a stand for student health and safety in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) with their new platform, Ripple. Led by Eric Huang of Poolesville High School and his fellow classmates Pranav Karthikeyan and Krish Putta from Poolesville, alongside Mehul Jasti from Clarksburg, the team is on a mission to address the maintenance issues that have long affected the daily lives of students throughout the district.
MCPS is currently holding initial information community meetings regarding the upcoming boundary study as the school system prepares to expand its high school offerings with upcoming opening of Crown High School (Gaithersburg), the reopening of Charles W. Woodward High School, and the expansion of Damascus High School.
Visit Montgomery recently hosted the MOCO Eats Food and Beverage Conference to provide hospitality professionals with educational opportunities while also supporting MCPS students through a scholarship fundraiser and a student pitch competition. (more…)
In alignment with the Year of the Coach initiative, MCPS Athletics and the Student-Athlete Leadership Council have announced the recipients of the Fall Coaches of the Year awards.
MCPS recently shared that the school system celebrated excellence in autism services during the fourth annual Autism Unit Awards on April 1. Teachers, paraeducators, administrators, service providers and community members were recognized.

Daniel Fellman, a Rockville High School and Montgomery College graduate, has been selected to give the ‘Student Spotlight’ presentation at the 60th Annual Spring Symposium on Archeology, presented by the Archeological Society of Maryland, Inc. The event takes place April 5, 2025 at The Maryland Historical Trust in Crownsville, MD.
On Wednesday afternoon, shortly after 3 pm, Wootton High School was alerted to police activity along Wootton Parkway in Rockville following an alleged threat by a current and former student to harm the school. The police detained the involved individuals, and as a precaution, the school transitioned to a shelter-in-place– bringing athletes inside from the fields until an update was received from Montgomery County Police.
