The Potomac Horse Center (PHC) closed permanently in July, after 31 years leasing the location from Montgomery Parks (14211 Quince Orchard Rd in North Potomac). In a statement in May, Montgomery Parks wrote that the PHC, a private business, notified Montgomery Parks of its intent to end its lease. Now, Montgomery Parks is preparing the site for the future which will include the demolition of buildings on site that are beyond repair.
A Quince Orchard High School senior has created “6th Fear Haunted Trail: Out of this World,” a free haunted trail in North Potomac that runs Halloween night and the following two evenings. Visitors can enjoy a free, alien-themed experience while supporting a donation drive for Manna Food Bank with non-perishable items. (more…)

Travilah Elementary School, located at 13801 Dufief Mill Rd., opened in 1960 in what is now known as North Potomac. It is named for Travilah Clagett, who was the first postmaster for the area, leading to the United States Post Office using the name “Travilah’ to identify the previously unnamed location. In 2011, ISI Elite Training founder Adam Rice opened his first facility in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Montgomery County Council on July 30 voted to approve the Great Seneca Plan: Connecting Life and Science, a master plan developed by the Montgomery County Planning Department. The plan focuses on strengthening the economic competitiveness of the Life Sciences Center, a thriving hub that is host to a diverse population and leading life sciences, medical, and educational institutions and organizations along the I-270 Corridor.
