On Wednesday, Governor Wes Moore hosted the 2025 Buy Local Cookout to kick off Maryland Buy Local Week, a statewide initiative encouraging residents to support local agriculture and seafood by incorporating Maryland-grown, produced, or harvested items into their meals from July 17 to 27. Last year, Atlantic Union and Olney-based Sandy Spring Bank announced that they entered into a definitive merger agreement for Atlantic Union to acquire Sandy Spring in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $1.6 billion. The acquisition was completed on April 1st and the combination of the two organizations created the largest regional bank headquartered in the lower Mid-Atlantic. Now, Atlantic Union has shared that Sandy Spring Bank will officially make the change to Atlantic Union this October.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration has announced the start of construction on Maryland’s first Pedestrian Safety Action Plan project– $15 million in pedestrian, bicycle and multi-modal improvements along nearly 2.5 miles of MD 650 (New Hampshire Avenue) from University Boulevard to Powder Mill Road in Prince George’s and Montgomery counties.
