During the month of September 2024, Frederick County’s INTERCEPT Task Force (Inter-agency Child Exploitation and Persons Trafficking) organized a multi-agency initiative aimed at combating the sexual solicitation of minors. The organized effort included participation from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Montgomery County Police Department. “This joint effort is part of an ongoing commitment to protect our community from child predators.” Three Maryland men, including one man from Clarksburg, were arrested and charged.

A Montgomery County judge denied Lee Boyd Malvo’s motion to vacate his guilty plea for six murders during the 2002 DC Sniper Attacks, deferring his re-sentencing until he completes his Virginia prison sentence.

The Maryland Department of Health, in partnership with the Baltimore Ravens, has launched a new campaign featuring Ravens tight end Mark Andrews to raise awareness about addiction, reduce stigma, and provide resources for seeking help, with support from Governor Moore and running through October 27. The rankings highlight colleges that excel in areas such as value, social mobility, and teaching as well as within the academic disciplines of business, computer science, engineering, nursing, economics, and psychology.

Big Greek Cafe is officially opening its ninth location at 8874 McGaw Rd in Columbia, MD. The restaurant will be open daily from 11am until 9pm. This is the local restaurant chain’s first Howard County location and fourth location outside of Montgomery County after opening a restaurant in Urbana in 2022, in Laurel in spring 2023, and in Cockeysville in the summer of 2023.

On Tuesday, Governor Wes Moore announced the Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown has filed a lawsuit against the owners and managers of the M/V Dali for negligence that led to the destruction of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in March 2024.

The team behind popular local spots like Melina, Julii, Cava Mezze, and the soon-to-open Bouboulina has confirmed to us that they will be taking over the former Renato’s restaurant space at 10120 River Rd in the Potomac Village Shopping Center. Renato’s will close at the end of this month.
