Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown has joined a coalition of 20 attorneys general in filing an amicus brief opposing efforts by the Trump administration to terminate the Flores Settlement Agreement, a 1997 court agreement that governs the treatment of children in immigration custody.
A powerful winter storm is expected to intensify rapidly along the Southeast coast this weekend, bringing major impacts to parts of the Carolinas and southern Virginia, but it now appears likely to largely miss the DC Metro area and much of Maryland.
Developers are seeking approval for a new Bojangles restaurant in Frederick County, which would mark the fast food chain’s second Maryland location, both located within the county.
The National Weather Service is urging drivers and pedestrians across Maryland and Virginia to stay alert for black ice as cold conditions continue.
The NWS warned that areas of black ice have already been reported this morning and cautioned that hazardous conditions can develop quickly and without warning. Officials say black ice will remain a daily concern as long as snowpack remains on the ground and temperatures stay near or below freezing.
Washington County officials said they were notified on January 14, 2026, that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is evaluating the potential purchase of a warehouse in Williamsport, MD to establish a new U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement processing facility. According to the county, the letter outlined possible renovations and site improvements for the property, including holding and processing areas, office and visitor spaces, and supporting infrastructure such as parking, fencing, lighting, and security features.
